It was obviously something pretty serious that happened. For Whitney to be adopted in her teen years, her parents must have relinquished their parental rights. That's an enormous thing to come back from, forgive and move forward. I have no doubt that God had a hand in Whitney's ability to reconnect. A lot of praying must have been going on. How powerful God's love is for us. God is so good.
